FORMER EVANGELIST DIES - Reverend Solomon Benjamin SHAW

Burial Service to Be Held Here on Monday for Rev. S.B. Shaw

REV. S.B. SHAW, 87, evangelist and publisher of religious books, died Tuesday at the home of his son, ROLIN W. SHAW, in Phoenix, Ariz. He was a resident of Grand Rapids until about 13 years ago.

Mr. Shaw wrote a number of religious books and maintained publishing houses here and in Chicago, where he lived for a time. Before entering the publishing field he served a number of Methodist churches in Michigan. He remained active in religious work until about 10 years ago.

Mrs. Shaw, who was ETTA SADLER before her marriage here, died 13 years ago.

Surviving are three daughters, MISS LAURA V. SHAW of Kalamazoo; MRS. HERBERT WOLDT of Ellsworth, Kan.; MRS. P. GEORGE KOSTOFF of Grand Rapids; six sons, ROLIN W. in Phoenix; ARTHUR F. of Grand Rapids, ELTON R. of Washington, D.C., MARK R. of Melrose, Mass.; JAY S. of Cohocton, Ohio; BERTON S. of Burbank, Calif.; a sister, MRS. WILLARD LIGGETT of Giltner, Neb.; and twenty-three grandchildren.

The body will arrive here Monday and private funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock at the Anton Eggebeen chapel on Jefferson-av. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery.

SOLOMON BENJAMIN SHAW was b. 11 June 1854, in Crown Point, Lake Co., IN. He was the son of LEMIAH SHAW and JOANNA MARGARET SANDERS. He married ETTA ELLEN SADLER on 11 May 1882, in McBride, Montcalm Co., MI. Etta was b. 28 April 1860, in Sturgis, St. Joseph Co., MI, the daughter of JAMES JARED SADLER and LORETTA SUTTON. Solomon d. 19 Nov. 1941, in Phoenix, Maricopa Co., AZ. Etta d. 4 Dec. 1928, Grand Rapids, Kent Co., MI. They had eleven children: ROLIN Wesley, Arthur Fayette, ELTON Raymond, Mark Revell, Laura Viola, Jay J. Sadler, Ida Grace, Edna Etta, Edith Margaret and Samuel BERTON SHAW.
