10/1944 - John H. (Jack) Wheeler

Mr. Wheeler, 67, president and general manager of Wheeler-Van Label Co., died of a heart attack at his home on Sunday, Sept. 17.

A native of Orangeville, Mich., Mr. Wheeler had been a resident of Grand Rapids for 38 years and a leader in the graphic arts association here for many years.

He started work as a typesetter on the Saranac Advertiser shortly after being graduated from Saranac high school. His first associations upon coming to Grand Rapids were with the Michigan Tag Co., and the Grand Rapids Label Co,

In 1922 he organized the Wheeler-Van Label Co., and remained as president and general manager until his death. He had been less active following a heart attack two years ago. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Graphic Arts Association, and First Presbyterian church.

Besides the widow, Anna, he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Pauline Hull, and a brother, Karl of Grand Rapids, a sister, Mrs. Robert Jepson of Ludington, and two granddaughters.
