(Grandville Avenue Record – 7 Aug 1914 – Pg. 1)

In the death of H. J. Grooters, that took place last Saturday, this community will miss a familiar figure. The deceased had lived at 663 Grandville avenue about 27 years, coming here from Grand Haven.
He had been in the employ of Foster, Stevens & Co. ever since he came here. He lived to the age of 65, and leaves a wife and seven children. The funeral was held at his late home last Tuesday, and at the Fifth Reformed church, where he was an elder for many years, retiring some time ago owing to ill health.
Mr. Grooters continued his services with Foster, Stevens & Co. up to about four weeks ago. In his church work he was always found faithful to his trust, and very active. Rev. Hoffman, former pastor, now of Zeeland, conducted the services at the home, in English, and Rev. Nettings in the Holland language. At the church both ministers conducted the services. Interment took place in Oakhill cemetery.
