11/1942 - John W. Ferdon-- During the past month death came to one of the Club’s loyal members, John W. Ferdon, an executive in the lumber business here many years. Mr. Ferdon, who was 77, died Monday, October 5, at his home, Oakwood Manor, following an extended illness.

Mr. Ferdon was president and treasurer of Grand Rapids Lumber Co., and also of the West Michigan Building Material & Supply Co.

A native of Closter, N,Y., he came to Michigan with his parents at the age of 5 and settled in Ann Arbor where he graduated froom the University of Michigan Law School in 1886. After two years with a Chicago law firm he became interested in the lumber business. He was married to Miss Mary Lucy Andrews of St. Paul in 1896.

He was trustee and board member of First Methodist church and a member of the Masonic order. He also was a member of the Rotary club. Surviving are the widow, two daughters, Mrs. Florence Prendergast and Mrs. Virginia Kelm; three grandchildren, Richard Prendergast, Virginiab Kelm and Margaret Kelm, and a sister, Mrs. Mary Bentley of Detroit.

Funeral services were held in First Methodist church with burial in Woodlawn cemetery.
